Getting off the peninsula is the hard part of any Winthrop trip, and the office is on the far side of it. Driving, Main Street or Winthrop Parkway to Route 1A through East Boston, the Sumner Tunnel to Leverett Circle, then the O'Brien Highway into East Cambridge takes about 22 minutes outside rush hour; the tunnel is the variable. By T, Bus 712 or 713 to Orient Heights, the Blue Line to Government Center and the Green Line to Lechmere adds up to about 45 minutes, and the office is a 10-minute walk from Lechmere. From Winthrop Beach, the office is about seven miles as the road runs. We are at 201 Broadway, entrance on the first floor, with free street parking and metered parking on Broadway and the side streets.
The search that brings Winthrop residents here most often is car accidents, and the injury behind it is whiplash. Route 1A through East Boston and the approaches to the Sumner and Callahan tunnels are stop-and-go for much of the day, and stop-and-go is where rear-end collisions happen. The head whips back and forward faster than the neck can brace, straining ligaments and jarring the small joints of the cervical spine. Stiffness, headaches, pain between the shoulder blades and sometimes dizziness follow, often a day or two later rather than at the scene.
Dr. Bromberg examines the neck and the whole spine, refers for X-ray or MRI when the findings warrant it, and treats with gentle adjustment, Active Release Technique and a graded return to normal movement through our auto accident rehab program. Every visit is documented. Severe pain, numbness or weakness in the arms, or any loss of consciousness after a crash belongs in the ER first.
No referral is needed. We accept most major insurance plans and verify your specific benefits before treatment. Hours are Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 8am to 1pm and 3pm to 6pm, with same-day slots held for patients in pain. Call (617) 494-1166.
Whether the collision happened on Winthrop Parkway, in the Route 1A traffic through East Boston, or in the queue for the Sumner or Callahan tunnel, the rules are the same. Massachusetts is a no-fault state. Personal Injury Protection on your own auto policy covers reasonable medical care, including chiropractic, regardless of who was at fault, with a statutory minimum of $8,000 per person. You do not need to wait on the other driver's insurer, and you do not need a referral. Our PIP and auto insurance page explains how the claim works.
Whiplash symptoms are often delayed. A neck that felt fine at the scene can be stiff and painful a day or two later, with headaches and pain between the shoulder blades, which is why we advise an evaluation within 72 hours of the crash. Dr. Bromberg examines the neck and spine, orders imaging when the exam calls for it, and documents every visit in treatment notes your insurer or attorney can use.
